It Started with 2K, 1K, and a Strong Bond — This Is How Swasanj Was Born !!!

Have you ever sat at your desk during a 9 to 5 job and thought, “Bas, ho gaya… kitna exhaust hai ye life?” That’s exactly where Swasanj began. I’m Swastika Mahotkar, and along with Sanjay Puttur, this brand was born during a phase when corporate life was pulling us from every direction. Long hours, constant pressure, and a routine that left very little space to breathe. We shared a cute and strong bond, and most of our best ideas came out during those random, unplanned conversations after exhausting workdays.

One such day, we started talking about money- no filters, no pretence. Sanjay said, very casually, “Shayad account mein 2k honge.” I laughed and replied, “Mere paas toh bas 1k hai.” There was a moment of silence, followed by laughter. It wasn’t sad—it was real. We joked about it, but somewhere in between, a thought popped up. If we already trusted each other this much, why not turn this bond into something meaningful? Something that belonged to us.

Sanjay looked at me and asked, “Par karein kya?”
I replied, half-serious, half-random, “Kuch fabrics ka kaam kar sakte hain.”
He paused, thought for a second, admired her and then said, “Waise apki dressing sense kaafi achhi hai. Modern kurtis ka business kyun nahi try karti ap mohtarma?”
That one line changed everything. It wasn’t a grand plan, just a simple idea that felt right. Scary, but exciting.

We jumped in knowing absolutely nothing. Zero experience, zero background, but full conviction. While I started researching fabrics, comfort, and designs, Sanjay went out sourcing materials. I designed the kurtis, keeping everyday wear in mind—something comfortable for office, home, or college. Sanjay made sure Swasanj was captured beautifully, from visuals to the smallest details. There were debates, small fights, “yeh nahi chalega” moments, and plenty of nok-jhok, but we always pushed each other forward.

The stitching part tested our patience the most. Finding skilled stitchers who truly understand fit and comfort wasn’t easy at all. We rejected designs, redid pieces, and learned that good quality takes time and effort. Every kurti had to feel right—not just look good. Because we wanted our customers to feel comfortable wherever they wore Swasanj, not just for photos, but in real life.

For us, Swasanj is our priya sakhi—a quiet companion that makes you feel confident without trying too hard. We want people to look at our customer and say, “Kitni khubsurat hai hamari sakhi.” Sanjay often laughs when he sees me wearing Swasanj and says, “Sun ri sakhi, meri pyari sakhi,” and honestly, that one line sums up the emotion behind this brand perfectly.

Swasanj stands for comfort, quality, and thoughtful everyday ethnic wear. It is built with late nights, honest effort, and a strong bond that believed in the idea even when things felt uncertain. We imagine Swasanj as that moment when someone looks at you and softly says, “Sun ri sakhi, meri pyari sakhi,” and maybe, just maybe, when your partner sees you in Swasanj, they smile and think, “Tu hai toh mujhe phir aur kya chahiye.” Thank you for being here and for supporting a small dream that started with very little money but a lot of heart. Take your time, explore Swasanj—and if it feels like your sakhi too, we’re really glad you found us.
